What? I'm on myPaper?

My girl friend whatsapp me in the morning and said I'm the on paper. I was like... HUH?

Till I see this.....
Kena used as advertising campaign by Julie Roberts. Haha!

Nonetheless, it was a pleasant surprise. :P But there's an extra 'e' behind my name.

Priority Seat Or Not?

Ok, so it was in the news... all the ugly sides of our local train commuters who refused to give up their corner seats to the needy.

The recent one showed the middle aged man spat 3 times at an elderly man. What is wrong with these people ? Need to spit or not?

And it began with this young soldier who gave up his seat (which is not the priority seat , but the one next to it) to the old man. The old man thanked him but rejected it and insisted on the priority seat which the middle aged man was on. And that sparked the heated argument... The old man did sit on the seat that the soldier offered eventually, but things got worse from there. Vulgarities, etc.

So, what's the point of priority seat? And where is the point in it? All commuters have the right to sit where they want, and these signs are useless when people do not pay attention to it. Some replies from forums even said "how about putting a fine if they don't give up their seat?" "then this will definitely be a 'fine' city"

Haha.

You think people will care meh?

I am a witness of seeing well abled adults who just glue their backside to the corner seats, and do not give up their seats to the needy. I had been pregnant before and now I'm carrying a toddler. These people just sleep away, or use their phone... they do not bother with who needs their seat. And you know what's the funny thing? There are people who are not seated on the priority seats giving up their seats for others! This is what I mean by, do we still need the priority signs? I am grateful for these commuters. And the weird thing is, the ones who give up their seats also need a seat of their own. They are the elderly. Ah Gong Ah Ma-s giving up their seat for me when I'm carrying my little one. All these other teenagers and abled adults just stare and see who can give up their seats. Totally ashamed of them.

Yes, I know we can ask nicely if they can give up their seats for us. I agree.

But the thing is that... this shows that our country, is not a gracious one. Commuters just do the staring game. I wait.. see who can give up their seat. I'm not going to let go of my seat.

Maybe it's the same for the other parts of the world. And I wonder if they have priority seat signs as well?

"Re-TARD-ed"

Just like any kid... when they are too tired, they tend to throw tempers.

But the worst is showing it in public. Bawling, kicking, so poor thing. And the parents are made to look bad, like some sort of criminal.

And so, mine did. I left her sitting on the ground crying till she gets enough. And the problem is, just so coincidentally, people starting crowding around where we stood and I sensed that a bunch of school girls wanted to return their trolley. My kid was blocking their way so I went up to her and lifted her off by her arm. And just when I was walking over, I heard this coming out from one of the girls.

"reeeee-TARD-ed"

What?

I tell you, if I wasn't fuming mad, I would have said this "Are you talking about yourself?" and walk off.

What's with the younger generation nowadays? Not street smart, not conscious and considerate. So far different from our batch of nerds and geeks.

And it's because of the way these kids were brought up, I remind myself to teach my toddler proper manners. To be sympathetic, kind and be aware.

And these manners have to be taught from young.

She says "thank you" whenever we hand things to her.

When I coughed, she would pat my chest. When she saw a bruise or cut on anyone in the family, she would immediately run for Zambuk (ointment) and apply it for us.

If someone unfamiliar pass her goodies, she would refuse.

These are just a few of the good parts of my kid. My point is, a child can be taught and guided. If you were haphazard in forming your child's crucial foundation, then the child will most probably grow up to be someone inconsiderate and of mean behavior. And that leads to another topic - the one recently reported on The New Paper that 2 train commuters had a row in the train about Priority Seat. I will talk about that separately.

So, how would you like to mold your kids?

Some Things Haunt You for Life

Don't be shocked by the title.

But it's true ain't it?

There are things... events... people... who/that can't get out of your head no matter how hard you try.

What haunts me? I suppose it would have to be lost friendships. I just can't get over the part where "people have already shut me off, so why do I have to bother salvaging things?"

Sometimes... I feel like asking them directly to get answers. Answers even though they hurt.

A few I have asked, but I didn't get a truthful answer. They patronize me and then the same thing repeats.. the MIA (missing in action) mode.

It scares me. Why things end up this way? We used to be happy together, talking merrily and sharing woes. Just when things are rosy and I thought we were building a rock-solid friendship, all of a blue they stopped conversing. And then when I probed for more, no answers were given.  A patronizing "oh no la... nothing's wrong" was always given to me.

SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG!

Else why was the friendship dissolving? The real answer is something I will never get it.

And I don't even know how to react to you when we meet on the streets. People whom used to be so close to... have become strangers on the walkway.

What else haunts me? Mistakes.

Even minor ones.

I remember there was a special test in school where gifted students were sieved. I prepared my pencil case the night before in glee. It contained my favorite stationery. The next day right before the test, I found my pencil case missing. I reported to the teacher and a search was conducted. No one owned up. My mood was really bad, horrendous I would say. I think I cried a little.

And you know what I did for my test?

In the brackets for every question I wrote ...

Q1: (1)
Q2: (2)
Q3: (3)
Q4: (1)
Q5: (2)

And you get the drift.

When I grew older... I felt it was the most stupid thing I did. It was a special test and who knows I could have made it to the gifted class. What if? What if I really could be in the gifted class? My fate now could change drastically.

This... haunts me.

And the actions of an ex. What he did still haunt me to this very day. His love became an obsession. It was a nightmare to me..I didn't know how I got out of it. And I'm thankful I did. I don't want to go through the details here ... it's way too personal to be on the WWW. The word 'nightmare' should suffice. I did a quick check on him, and he's getting married. Good for him. He could have been a better man now and even though he hurt me in the past, I still wish him the best. He could have changed... and that's what's most important. If it's possible, I would never want to see him anymore.

And there's a question that haunts me. A question that not a living soul could answer.

What happens when we die?

Is it like the movies where you get a flashback on your life? Or a less than a second realization?  Like letting you see and understand why things happened the way they did? Will we ever open our eyes again? Where will our memories go to? Do we just *poof* and be gone? Is there Heaven? Is there Hell? Can we feel how is it like to breathe again? Can we see ourselves?

What will happen?

It frightens me.

So, what are your living haunts?

Senka Perfect Whip VS Biore Marshmallow Foam

Senka $11~$13 : Biore $10.40

I tried both... and I'm gonna say which one works better for me.

Biore is milder than Senka .. so when it's for acne skin, perhaps the Biore may work better, especially if it's acne+sensitive skin.

The tightness that I feel after washing.... both are the same, but I just thought the Biore one may feel slightly drier.

Talk about foam... Senka wins. Biore pumps out the foam for you so you don't have to create the foam as with Senka. However, the staying power lasts longer for Senka. I have the habit of washing over my eyelids and the Biore one will always seep in, making my eyes very irritable. Senka's foam doesn't.

I use toner and cotton pad after cleansing and guess which product leaves a less yellow cotton pad? LOL!

Shhh... Senka.

iPhone Game : Samurai vs Zombies 2

Just when I thought there was no more fun games to play... Samurai vs Zombies appeared!

It's easy to play, but you will need internet to get connected.

The strategic part of the game comes in when you need to choose carefully which upgrades to select. Once you spend it on the wrong arsenal... that's it. LOL.

It's quite addictive, once you start, it's hard to stop. Well, at least for me.

Do give this game a shot! :D

The Shampoo That Works for Me

I have used many .... I really mean, many shampoos. And all of them leave me with an oily scalp, oily hair, dry scalp, dandruff, itchiness.

Even though some claimed no more dandruff or oiliness.

Vidal Sassoon, Pantene, Dove, Head & Shoulders, Sunsilk, etc.. You name it, I have most probably tried it.

Until I chanced upon this!

Follow Me Green Tea series of shampoo! I tried the Scalp Care and it works! No more oily scalp, oily hair roots, itchiness and etc!

I have been using this for years and my scalp is still in good condition. :D

If you have 'suffered' like me previously... perhaps you can give this a try!

18 May 2013 - 8 Days Corporate Chic Workshop & Girls Day Out

My buddy invited me to this workshop as she won a pair of tickets.

8 Days Corporate Chic Workshop was held at Orchard Parade Hotel, under the group Far East Hospitality.

Host of the event was Yasminne Cheng, a local DJ at Class 95FM.

There were makeup, fashion and hair styling tips.

Makeup in progress.. Bobbi Brown cosmetics was used.

Fashion guru

Hair styling.

The buffet! Showing you the pastries section. The smoked salmon also not bad!

The event was great and Yaz kept injecting humor into the 3 hour long session.

And what pissed me off slightly during the event was this... Some bunch of gu-niangs laughed at Yaz's wrongly-pronounced surname. She got it right the first time but as she couldn't see me raising my hand, she thought she had misread it and mentioned 'Kok' ? That made those women laughed hilariously. Seriously, what's the issue? My surname so funny meh? I just find their behavior childish. Haven't they heard of our local vavavoom lady, Ann Kok? Will you still laugh at her surname?

Anyway, the reason why she mentioned my name was because....

I won myself a free express manicure! LOL! (Talk about changing of moods so fast like the weather...)

It's not too bad la.. I think the manicurist could still be under training.
And that shiny Swarovski elements bracelet.... is my advanced birthday gift ! 谢谢!

Our goodie bag from the event had a copy of 8 Days, a New Look voucher, a box of post it notes, a tube of highlighters with pen, tote bag and a Bobbi Brown complimentary makeup letter.

Alright, that's for the workshop. After the workshop, my buddy and I went to look at the clothes at New Look! We utilized the voucher immediately.

Then we proceeded to Isetan and ... that's where my 损友 got me to buy a Samantha Vega bag. Too cute to resist. Serious. Plus... 50% DISCOUNT!

Couple bags and bears!

Paper bag also rainbow colored. O_O"

Close up on the bears.

With our weary feet (after the New Look and bag shopping, time had lapsed for 4 hours), we went to Plaza Singapura and had our late dinner at Itacho Sushi.

Funny faces.

And I'm ending this post with this FREE pic at the workshop.

Thank you for inviting me out on a fun filled day ah!

People will stare... Make it worth their while.

Shhh... Sleeping Rabbit

You're gonna go awwwwwwwww....

Sleeping beauty...

And the funny thing is, my husband hates it when he sees our bunnies sleeping like this. They look dead to him! LOL.

Rabbits are prey, and they don't sleep for more than 5 min each time. So getting a shot like this is very hard. Luckily I got a pic of it... cos right after this, my toddler hit the cage accidentally and woke Fluffy up. Poor bunny. Can't even get a decent 5 min wink.

17 May 2013 - Navy Open House

Navy Open House! First thought... super hot. Then second thought... super crowded.

And true enough, the weather was sibei ho ah (very good).. no clouds!

This post will have quite a number of photos .. so more pics, less words! Yay!

OOTD. The pants are ultra light weight if you're thinking why I'm wearing long pants. And the top is unique with its cut outs! Got mickey head plus mustache too!

Here's mummy in toddler's hat.

MSTF Family Day with lots of black gigantic balloons. They look like floating grapes lah!

Goodie bag leh! Got branded biscuits and mineral bottled water. We even brought home an umbrella with the same emblem!

Fierce looking ones..

Toddler and me.

There was a live performance with guns and explosions. Quite thrilling but I didn't enjoy the loud booms. My toddler was scared as well as she kept patting her chest and said 怕怕 (scared).

Steady leh. :D
Initially I thought this would be super heavy as I saw their arm muscles popped when they carried and passed it to us visitors. And I'm very surprised that I could hold it! But.. not for so long lah

Display of the fleet.

The rolled up rope on the ship. Jialat, people step until black black.

The weather is too good. Thumbs up.

Helicopter! First time at the open house!

This darling drone here is very very very expensive.

Looks like those stuff can shoot anytime...

Here's our little captain.
We were actually late for this photo booth and was denied entering the queue. Luckily a personnel saw our disappointment (or rather mine... ) and kindly helped us to loan a set of uniform for our toddler! He's so kind and flexible in doing things! Thank you so much! If not for you we wouldn't have been able to have this photo as precious memory.

This sort of sums up the event. It was fun and tiring and scorching.

What I didn't like about this event was ... the teddy bear was sold out. =( Why oh why? And I heard that it wasn't sold during the days for the public-viewing. Don't tell me first preview day all kena sold ah? Whoever is in charge of this merchandising is so screwed

And lots of thanks to my hubby who brought us around and carried all the barang barang, goodie bags and umbrella. LOL!

Fried Chicken Bits

Drooling yet?

My girl friend said YES when I suggested putting recipe posts of what I cook for my family. She's so enthusiastic. Jo, right, Jo?

And so this shall be my first recipe post. Actually, it's not a detailed recipe ... as I leave it up to you as to how much chicken you want, or how much seasoning you need. I'll just give a rough guide.

And so, here I used chicken fillet as I find that they are softer.

Fried Chicken Bits
300gm chicken fillet
1-2 tbsp shao xing wine
3 tsp light soy sauce
1 tbsp dark soy sauce (the liquid type, not the thick sauce type)
corn flour for coating

Marinate the chicken for at least 30min. Right before pan-frying, you coat the marinated chicken in corn flour. Ta da! Pan fry them till they turn crispy and dark brown. It takes at least 15min over low fire.

And I reiterate, you may add more or less of any of the seasoning as mentioned. I think I added more shao xing wine and dark soy sauce. So, go ahead and experiment!

Enjoy yourselves!

Why Are Friends No Longer Friends?

Ain't this question one of the most asked if you're someone who values friendships and relationships a whole damn lot?

I've gained some, and lost some. I don't care about those who just don't deserve my time and effort. Our paths differ and even though I hate to let go, I just had to let it be. And in this post, I meant people who are potential keepers and yet .... just read on.

For the case of loss, I have no idea why I've lost a few of them. We were still happily chatting away days before and then suddenly they just ceased all form of contact. Have you been in such a similar situation?

It makes me wonder why? What happened? I am very sure I've done nothing wrong, and in some instances, it was the friend who needed my help and when I said I couldn't make it (due to time and distance), the friend just stayed away and stopped talking altogether. Is it my fault that I said no? I don't just say no for nothing. I have my limits as well. And it's not like I rejected you rudely!?

Then there's friends whom you thought can be trusted through bad times. But they just disappear when you needed them.

And those who acted negatively after seeing you for a long time... you just thought you were still friends. And they displayed a "OMG, why are you here?" kind of face.

Some people did not explicitly state that they do not want to maintain the friendship and still behave chummy. If you do not want someone as a friend, then just stop it. Stop appearing to be kind and be concerned when you're just not sincere. It really doesn't kill to tell the truth. And we don't have to be on each other's friend list you know?

I am ok with people deleting me from their list, at least it tells me that they do not wish to hear about my life and I can spare them with my boring newsfeeds. Seriously, it's a practical and logical thing that if you don't want to know something, delete it/him/her.

In case if you're wondering if I did anything when I noticed something was amiss, yes I did. But things just didn't work out for themselves. Some responded kindly and things were sorted out. And the point of this post is about those who just stopped talking for no reason even when I tried to find out more. It's not fair if I really did something wrong and you just choose to keep mum. Like that you think I know what's wrong ah? And it's even worse when you condemned me when I did nothing wrong. I value each friendship and will do my best to salvage but if it has become a one-sided affair... Then I guess it's just not worth salvaging anymore.

And for those that I've gained and manage to keep... thank you my dear pals. We have went through lots of tribulations and good times. Let's give ourselves a pat on our back. We deserve it.

A toast to our friendship!

Love you guys. ;)

有点被冤枉 : Wrongly Accused

I heard a woman saying "those rabbits (may be) abandoned" ...

I was like... 6 meters away from where I stood and took this photo.

My trolley was there, my phone was hanging off the S-hook from the trolley, my house keys, my girl's water bottle are all there ... and she said those rabbits are (likely) abandoned and gave a disgusted look! 为什么, 为什么? Why?!  LOL.

Anyway, I didn't do anything. I gave no obvious reaction. After a long while, I told my girl to go pick the rabbits up. She then gave another expression that I cannot comprehend. It's like saying "OMG... Those are HER rabbits! And I said they were abandoned..." + guilty face.

My poor rabbits. It's true that Jade was an abandoned rabbit and we saved her from a nearby park. She had skin problems, missing fur and was very smelly and dehydrated. After a month of nursing she was well and gave birth to 5! And here in this picture is of her and her daughter Fluffy. You guys are no longer unwanted pets. You're safe with us now. :)

Cheap Clothes Shopping

Cheap... and the quality is not compromised.

Here's what I got at Bugis Street!
Awesome buys right?

And here's from the branded H&M
14 pairs of girls' panties at near $20 ! One piece is about $1.40 leh!
